Costume Count!

Halloween is just around the corner! It's definitely become my favourite Holiday of the year as Church st. becomes a carnival of costumes and parties until the Great Pumpkin comes! I've been busy with work and not had a chance to create a costume for myself at all this year! I'm searching for inspiration, I think.
In the comments section last post Musclsvg put a question to me thus: "What would be your ultimate Halloween costume design? "

The Ultimate anything is a difficult request to fill. I have so many things I'd love to see as costume for Halloween or just every day life :) that I can't draw fast enough to get them all down. So, I thought what I'd do is draw up a few ideas I've got for Beefcake Costumes that play on some of my own personal favourite fantasies! As cartoony as the proportions are in my drawings I've tried to consider each costume as if it were to be worn by a "real" man.

First up is Vlad The Impaler! Very simple. Very, I think, sexy! I think it'd be hot to see the guy with the cape pulled across his chest at first before the big reveal as he swoops in for the big bite! Swoon!

I'll post as I finish each drawing, hopefully each day...though I can't promise it :)

If anyone has any requests as I go along feel free to post in the comments. I've got my own ideas but am not at all opposed to inspiration from all y'all!

Happy Halloween!

I love Halloween! I think of all the holidays it's my favourite. What do I like most about Halloween, you ask? I like the decorations on people's lawns. All the skeletons, pumpkins, jack-o-lanterns, giant spiders and cobwebs, bales of hay, ghosts, bats and all that stuff. And the costumes, the getting all dressed up and going out to Halloween parties. And I love the horror movies on tv. So many of them I can't watch any more than a few minutes of or I won't be able to sleep at night!! For example, I've never seen all of the Exorcist. Only bits and pieces throughout the years...all in spurts before I have to change the channel. That movie is too much scary for me.
I prefer the classics. The movies made before gore and fake blood got to be so real looking. The original Night of the Living Dead still scares the pants off me. The Wolfman with Lon Chaney Jr. is surprisingly scary for an older film. And of course I love the Frankenstein and Bride Of Frankenstein, Dracula, and The Creature From the Black Lagoon (all time fave).
Lately every Halloween I've kind of established a little routine...put on Sleepy Hollow (good creepy music by Elfman, and good creepy atmosphere by Rick Heinrichs (production design) and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki (I looked 'em up), and I carve pumpkins. Then cook up the pumpkin seeds, dress up myself and my dog, and wait for kids to ring the bell for candy!

*sigh*

I can't wait for Halloween!

Hope you all have a good one! And feel free to share favourite scary movies or traditions. I'm always looking for some new old favourites!

Monster Beach IV

It's SUMMER!! I've already been to Toronto's beach a few times (I think I got a little sunstroked)!

I really wanted to do a joke with the Invisible Man because 1. he's one of my favourite Universal film characters and b. I could full frontal nudity and not be embarrassed!!! There you go! The other Monster Beaches can be found here, here and here. I hope you guys are having a great summer!

Oh yeah, I actually really wanted to put up a drawing of Superman because he's the big hero of the week! I saw the movie and really quite liked it. If they do a sequel (and there's talk) I'd love to see them do Bizarro! Even if it's a subplot I think a Superfight with Bizarro would be awesome! And Bryan Singer must continue to direct.

best,

Monster Beach III

Happy New Year!
Let's ring in the new year with another lame gag panel starring everyone's favourite monster muscle-men! This one introduces the mummy...for the "bandage" fetishists out there! There's got to be a waxing gag involving the Wolfman but I've yet to come up with it.
(There's probably a "gagging" gag to be made, too...)
Cheers!

Monster Beach Party!

Following in the grand tradition of monsters frolicking on the beach I submit to you my second cartoon in the series.

Oh, and you're not mistaken... the punchlines are cheesy. And once again I find myself approaching the frightening territory of the "Furry" (if you don't know what that is I suggest a google search then a cleansing of the eyes and brain). I suppose it's inevitable when you attempt to "hunkify" fictional characters. I even gave the Wolfman a tail for an upcoming joke.

Frankie's pose is loosely based on one of my favourite sculptures, Bernini's David. Even though I didn't copy it I love the look of determination on David's sculpted face.

Y'know, so far the hardest Universal Monster to "hunkify" is also my favourite -- The Creature from the Black Lagoon! He's a fish man! That's not really all that sexy. Not to me, at any rate. The easiest one to do is the Invisible Man!

And wait till you see Igor!

Woof!
