Hairy King and Hawkman!

This fella is part of a larger drawing...a king-type appraising a slave. It's a little bit based on a Frank Frazetta picture but the king in his drawing quite a LARGE man. Big of tummy, is he. Once again I feel bad for posting a pencil drawing. I'm not sure why I dislike posting sketches...I'd much rather show this when it's a finished picture but this week has been awfully busy with other work. I promise that when he's inked you will see the picture in its entirety!

While you wait for me to get my work done :) might I suggest checking out the artwork here. The creators of this site have a gallery of comics' hunkiest men! This particular painting was the cover to an issue of Hawkman. I actually posted on the Hawkman message board in an attempt to find out if the artist, John Watson, was willing to sell the original! He replied in the negative. Too bad for me.

cheers,
j.

I'm so glad you and this blog are around. The world has been starved of good beefcake art for far too long. Looking forward to seeing the full king/slave pic! And, indeed, everything else you might want to draw.

If you ever draw a Colossus, I want to register my interest right now in buying the original. :)

Francois - Many thanks. I'll be putting your site into my proper set of links when I get a chance. Many thanks also for mentioning me on your site. I did see it.
I'd love to draw Myles and Phat! The Vivisector was my favourite X-Statix character!

Andrew - Colossus is most definitely on my list of heroes to draw. Bryan Hitch once did a great Colossus in a one shot co-starring Meggan of Excalibur! It'd be hard to match his brilliance but I'll give it a shot!

best,
j.

I don't remember the Hitch pic. I'll have to track it down. Rick Leonardi's Colossus in the skimpy orange shorts from his Australia days, that was always my favourite. I'm in Toronto at the end of next month, so if you get the urge to do a Colossus before then, please let me know!

Andrew - I remember that Colossus very well. Leonardi also did a nice Colossus mini-series in Marvel Comics Presents.

I'll do my best to get a pin-up done by the end of April. I assume you're coming to the Paradise Comic Con?

I hadn't realized that was inked by Craig Russell...wow. But then I guess when I first read it I was in high school and hadn't started paying attention to such things. I really should dig that out and take another look at it.

I'm actually in town for a wedding, and will probably miss the con completely, but if all else fails, we have a mutual friend in Butcher!
