Summer Men!

A buddy just bought a square cut Speedo. He didn't think it looked good on him. I assured him it did indeed look very good. That's (loosely) him beside the guy tying his shoe. I'll have to draw the backside, too.

Drew this guy for another Daddy Next Door poster for Toronto dj Dwayne Minard.

If you're in the city check out his DND night April 5th at Wayla bar. Look him up on the Facebook.

Swiped!

Recently it came to my attention that a guy named Edward Wihnan had been stealing my artwork. In fact he'd pretty much used every drawing I'd ever posted on my blog. In some cases he'd used the same image multiple times. He'd cut and pasted parts of my drawings together to form his "new" images. He put different heads on my drawings, reversed, re-scaled figures and called it all his own.
I found a Deviant art page, a Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter and a RedBubble page (where he sold shirts with my re-purposed art as well as a few other swiped artists). They're all gone now. He's removed everything -- or found ways to hide himself from my searches (blocking me on Facebook, for example). He goes by the name "Uncle Deadward" on most of those sites.

Friends of mine have gone through this before. They've been swiped and the thief has been caught, shamed and disappears, usually without a word from the thief. Twice I wrote to Edward Wihnan -- first to warn him that I was about to post what I'd learned on Facebook and second that I had snagged all of "his" images. I also warned him that I'd written to RedBubble and that if any money was made from his stolen work I'd be expecting payment.

Above is my drawing and Edward's (completely unretouched) version. I love that he painted himself with "whore". It should read "thief" because he gives whores a bad name. Incidentally, that face is how he portrays himself in his diary comics.
Below is a screen-cap from his Deviant art page explaining how he came up with his idea for the Spider-Man butt drawing. In a later comment he mentioned how he could "draw butts all day". My butts. He's drawing MY butts!

So I was pretty enraged the day I discovered all of this -- put together the compilations you see here. There are many more images. Many, many more. But these were the ones where I knew the source material immediately. Some aren't 100% figured out. Like the Spartan image, for example. I knew the face of the last guy but not the body.

I apologize for not updating my blog all that much lately. Don't think that discovering I've been swiped will deter from posting. I'll be keeping an eye out for the return of Edward "Uncle Deadward" Wihnan. As I say, he's vanished from the net. But he'll be back. Oh, he also claims to be a photographer but I suspect that, like his "art", is a lie.

J.Bone

No Title.

My poor neglected blog. Where have I been? What took me away? Who why and how? Many things have kept me busy, pre-occupied and neglectful. Mostly I just haven't been drawing beefcake lately. I've had so much work to get done that all my doodle time is spent working on development stuff for the project(s) I'm drawing.

I've more or less caught up on that work -- the third issue of Rocketeer Spirit which is drawn by me is in stores now :)
You can read a review of the issue by clicking this link

I'll do my best to update more often. Because of the schedule I'm on it'll most likely be warm up doodles from my Tumblr page.

Tumblr Doodle

This here is a bit of Beefcake I saw on Tumblr and had to sketch out. I apologize sincerely for the lack of updates. I've been very busy with work and life stuff. I'll try to sketch and scan more as we fall into autumn (why is it already so cold?).
Today's post is brought to you by the letter B (for Beefcake, Bicep, and Buff) and the Model Julian Navarro

Colby Keller in a Box!

Colby Keller is coming to TORONTO! (that's where I live, in case I haven't mentioned that fact in the past week:) He's bringing his spanking skills to the Fit Primpin party at the Great Hall. I'll be there. Look for the nerdy guy shyly sketching in the corner.

About this drawing - it's sketched from an awesome series of photos by Gabe Ayala. Colby posed in hot short-longjohns and various sexiness in an empty tv cupboard. Those are some of my favourite Colby photos. What a great life drawing model he'd make. So much character and a great body :)

I'm very much looking forward to finally meeting Colby! Expect more drawings after this weekend.
OH, and HAPPY PRIDE!
It's Toronto Pride this weekend.

I got your back.

Sketch based on a photo. I've got to start writing down a reference for the photo because I don't remember who the model is. I'm pretty sure it's on my Tumblr though.
Such a nice bum. :)

Muskles!

I don't recall if these were based on any photos (as the past few posts have been). My feeling is that I was just in the mood to doodle muscles.

Morning Warm-up!

I've been drawing a lot of vehicles in my latest project. I don't draw vehicles well. Even thinking of them as geometric shapes and simplifying details I still hate to, and suck at, drawing cars. The best way out of a car-drawing induced funk is to draw nearly naked men. Working out the straights and curves of a well-posed fashion model is ever so much more satisfying!

Drink and Draw!

I sketched this after a recent Best Chest contest at Woody's (Toronto). It's from memory, of course, and represents the final three contestants. I actually mostly wanted to draw the tattooed guy on the right. He didn't win, but I loved his entire look. I believe the winner was the guy on the left. He was much cuter in person (it's possible I was still a little drunk-ish when I sketched this ;)

Finally! An update!

When I started my blog I always vowed never to apologize for sporadic posting. But...it's been an awfully long time since I updated. Sorry.
I've got a Tumblr going over at Tumblr and that's been my main source of manly Beefcakery. Sometimes I sketch the guys I re-Tumblr and then post them over there when I should be posting here. So, here I am back at Blogger. I've got a backlog so I'll do my best to keep this updated. But also check out Tumblr if you want to see drawings and the guys that inspire me to draw (and...other stuff).

hugs,

Back to Front!

Whew! I love drawing comics but I'm telling you...it can be tiring. Not tiring like rescuing people from a burning building or construction work (mmm...firemen and construction workers). It's not like a noble pursuit working for the greater good. It's just, for me anyway, a lot of late nights and trying not to repeat myself on page layout, panel composition and figure posing.
And nothing points out an artist's inability to draw a good likeness better than drawing a roomful of 1930s Hollywood stars and not even being able to get a recognizable Katherine Hepburn. Oof!

In between figuring out what makes Jimmy Stewart look like Jimmy Stewart I sketch muscled men to boost my morale :)

Scruff Sketches!

Two more beefy guys from my folder of "Inspiration". More like a separate hard drive at this point. I figure I'd better get to drawing those guys or else why did  I save their images? There is always something to be learned from a pair of perfect pecs.

Hide and Secord!

Just a quick and dirty post to welcome in the NEW YEAR! Happy New Year everyone! I've been up to my rocket-pack in Rocketeer for the past few months. I love getting to draw Cliff and Betty again (this time I think I'm doing a much better job on both). Here's a little sneak peek at Cliff.

The announcement at Comics Alliance can still be seen here.

Strip Tease!

What? A Friday update? I scanned this yesterday (Thursday) and then got busy drawing stuff (The Rocketeer) and forgot to post this drawing. I really like how this turned out...it's part of a larger image but the rest just didn't look good enough to share. Soon, though.

Okay...back to the Rocketeer!

A little Scruff Scribbling

I wonder if I should be writing to the guys I've drawn. At the very least I should tell them they are attractive. I like that the one guy is wearing glasses in his muscle shot!

Man Drawing!

These two gorgeous fellas (as gorgeous as a hairy chest minus head can be) provided wonderful relief from a day of inking. Sometimes I get so wrapped up inking comic book pages that I start working mechanically. Taking a break to draw in pencil, loosely and without concern for finishing a drawing helps me to see my penciled pages in a different light and ink with greater freedom.

Scruff Sketch!

My schedule! Oh, my schedule! Lately I've been quite busy and any drawing time is spent on work. But a guy needs breaks from drawing superheroes and the Mayor of Toronto (I'll talk about that stuff when I can). So I've been sketching guys on popular "dating" apps in between pages. Just loose sketches, mind you. No time yet to finish any of the drawings. But it's good brain-freeing, arm-loosening exercise and it gives me something to share with all of my patient blog viewers :)

best,

Bait and Tackle!

Out shopping the other day I saw these two guys trying on hip-waders (thigh to waist high boots for standing in rivers when fishing, for those not in the know :) Both were scruffy, trim bodied country boys just naturally sexy. I took a mental picture and present the drawing here for you. A drawing is a poor substitute for reality - but then a drawing will never look at ya funny for staring.

Stare away.
